A Funny Thing Called War - Teaser
See you there!!
Guys,
Fantastic effort. I was at the 11/13 show at the French cons.
I loved the play – very reminiscent of Atkinsons BlackAdder goes forth with Balderick, George et al. I made some notes – although I profess to know little about theater.. for the record, I am a major major fan of the BlackAdder series.
For 11/13 show :-
1. Comic timing was excellent for most except the cute babe “Bob”. Damn, her smile was killer. At times she was a bit too forceful and not natural. Guess her smile makes up for everything. What would I give … alas 🙂
2. The pitch was a bit too fast for few jokes.. so was the dialogue pace. The dialogue HAS to be bit slower at times.. the pace has to be slighlty on the slower side – what if the audience is not hep??
3. You will need to cut short on a few jokes too.. the play-length as off by a few mins.. nothing wrong there though.
4. The ironic humour (about the vagaries, absurdities of war etc) was, frankly speaking, missing. There was too much concentration on silly jokes on Balderick and others..which was definitely not felt by the audience.
5. The audience was allowed even after the play started.. bad bad etiquettes.. the auditorium door should have been closed. Period.
6. Prior to the show, descriptions of the cast, explanations of key parts of the show, and descriptions of the scenery of the theatre and stage is generally provided to audience.. not sure if it is mandatory, but it would have set the stage better.. I didn’t know the central plot of the whole show until the second half at all – when I realised that you had Corporal Punishment, General Hospital & Captain Cook combined.
Good Things:
1. Balderick & George as usual excellent. Balderick reminded me of T. Robinson – spectacles were missing though. So was George and Machette.. Central characters were very good. Edmund actually was really good, but there is too much when the similarities of Atkinson are searched in him.. If he was slower in this dialogue delivery, and that ironic tone dragged a little more I would be laughing my guts out even more.
2. Stage was excellent.. excellent backdrop.
3. Great costumes.. can we make them funny pants which are like floating balloons going lean inside the gumboots.. would look au naturel.
4. Good jokes, some really hilarious cracker jacks them.. Balls and willies
5. Machette’s booming voice was really one hell of a display.. The modulations were also excellent. So was George modulations.
6. The nurse was amazing in her dialogues and timing..amazing clarity the best bit.
7. Bob.
I hope you will not mind the detailed PM. Please pardon me if I have been overbearing. Sincerest apologies.
Hello Yunus,
Thank you so very much for taking time and sending us your feedback. It is much appreciated. This is our first production and we need to know where we lack.
The objective feedback is very helpful and we will definitely work on the points mentioned.
Cant thank you enough for listing the good points, it encourages the team and brings a smile :). Makes us feel our effort was worth it 🙂
Thanks again. 🙂
take care

hi guys,
I had a wonderful evening yesterday, thanks to you. Rs.150 well spent 😀
It was hilarious, most of it seemed very natural and I was gripped the whole time [i guess sitting in the front seat helps].
Would be unfair for me to criticize, as this is only my fourth play.
But i would agree with most of what Yunus has already pointed out.
I would’nt say the story was dragging but i felt a lot of petty jokes could have been crafted better. Well, that’s only me.
A few sharp corners here and there, but on the whole a very good effort *pat on the back*.
Would love to hear [and see] more from you guys.
TAHAttO!
Yunus & Deepak
Thanks a Ton for such a quick feedback – that means a hell lot!
Thanks ever so much for the detailed and objective feedback.

Vaisakh
I take back point 4 in after-thought… about the ironic humour.
I just youtubed a couple of black-adder episodes and realized you were on the spot.
Sorry about that 🙂
3 cheers for Tahatto… hic hic Zzzz… 🙂
and point 3 too.. the no of jokes are fine also.. in the after thought.
See I got up from my drunken slumber to point this one.. he he he :)..
Great going guys.. be sure to inform me about the next installment or the next BlackAdder…
Hey Team…
I was amazed to see that, it being the first play from Tahatto, everything was sooo well organized…
Cheers to the whole team…The play was awesome and the so were the characters.George was the best among the rest 🙂
I was seated in the last row of the audi…and I totally agree with whatever Yunus said. I really could not follow the first
15-20 mins of the play, because of the distractions. And also at times, Nurse’s voice was not audible to the last row.
But on the whole…great show Tahattozzzzz…:)
Looking forward to many more shows from the Team.
Regards,
Swathi
